Reptilians

Note There are supposed to be different design lineages just as there are different Xindi species. This is why the ships are listed by races, although I have given out global numbers (ship type 1..7) in the order of their appearance. Many, if not all larger vessels are capable of opening a spatial vortex.

Ship type 1

General description

Little is known about this Xindi-Reptilian ship type, just that it is comparably well-armed and capable of opening some kind of vortex.

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

  1. Two of these ships manned by Xindi-Reptilians could be seen in ENT: "Rajiin". Reed said: "The smaller [Xindi] ship is approaching the starboard docking port." But both ships were evidently the same size, about 130m long. Clearly the modelers might have created two different versions with a bit more budget, but the writers should have anticipated that they would build two identical models. A ship with a "matching hull configuration" was reported by T'Pol in ENT: "The Shipment", but not actually shown. This time the vortex created by the ship was called an "energy portal".
  2. When ships of this type reappeared in ENT: "Twilight", they seemed to be somewhat larger, rather 200m when docked to Enterprise. This is still close enough for a compromise. In "Azati Prime" the ships were again smaller than that. In "The Forgotten" the special effects made the Reptilian ship appear huge compared to Enterprise, but it may have been in front at a larger distance than usual. Their length in "The Council" was well below 200m, only to appear larger again in "Countdown".
  3. The crew complement was implied in ENT: "The Council" when Dolim spoke of 22 casualties on the ship destroyed by Degra. It didn't look like there could have been many, if any survivors.

Class specifications

Length: approx. 150m
Crew complement: 22

Insectoids

Assault shuttle

General description

The small craft of the Xindi-Insectoids may be used as an atmospheric shuttle or as a submarine. It is heavily armed with half a dozen particle cannons and a torpedo launcher.
Gallery: Xindi Starships

Known shuttles

No name given

Annotations

It was Reed who classified the captured craft as an "assault shuttle" in ENT: "Hatchery". The shuttle is used to examine the submerged Xindi probe in "Azati Prime". It has some sort of spike on the roof that is extended during the flight, obviously part of the propulsion system.

Class specifications

Length: approx. 7m

Cargo shuttle

General description

This large Xindi-Insectoid shuttle is built to carry cargo from and to a planet surface and is also suited as a command ship. It is equipped with retractable landing legs and a cargo lift covering a large portion of the ventral side.

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

  1. Although it was manned by Primates (and some Arboreals) most of the time, the shuttle type is classified as an Insectoid design because there is a clear design lineage with the other Insectoid vessels.
  2. This shuttle first appeared in ENT: "The Shipment" where it was used by the Xindi-Insectoids and Degra may have been just a guest on board. It seems impossible that this comparably large shuttle of 30m or more could land inside a smallish ship like its alleged (Reptilian) mother ship (Xindi ship type 1) is supposed to be one. But T'Pol identified the latter as having the same configuration as a previously encountered vessel, which was only 150m long (even in a generous estimation). It is still possible that the shuttle may form a part of the larger ship's hull, or T'Pol was for once mistaken about the ship type she spotted or about its capabilities.
  3. The problem of the shuttle's size becomes much more complicated as we see it again in a couple of episodes as Degra's command ship. Whilst never explicitly stated, we get the impression that it is supposed to be the very same vessel all the time, remembering that Degra was aboard already in "The Shipment". In "Stratagem" and "The Forgotten" his ship is docked to Enterprise and more like 65m long, as if it were meant to represent a bigger ship here. But in "Azati Prime" and "Damage" we see Degra's vessel alongside a ship of type 1, and it doesn't seem to be longer than 35m here, unless the Reptilian type 1 has been scaled up too (and still the latter would not be big enough to keep Degra's vessel in its shuttlebay). In "The Council" a shuttle is released from the vessel itself. If we assume the usual length of 6m for the auxiliary craft, we would still obtain only some 40m for Degra's ship. But if we go with the intended size of 27m for the shuttle, Degra's ship would measure some 150m. In "The Council" and once again in "Countdown" a very good size estimation is possible relative to Enterprise, and here the ship is only 40m long again, which is in strong contradiction to the idea of a 27m shuttle that could be carried aboard.
  4. Regarding the size issue my preliminary conclusion is that as a shuttle of an Insectoid ship it would need to be a lot smaller than 35m (to fit into the shuttlebay of the Reptilian vessel), but its structure doesn't look like that. As Degra's command ship, on the other hand, it would better be a great deal larger (in its function as a moderately armed command ship carrying 27m shuttles), but usually doesn't look longer than 40m in direct comparisons.
  5. In "Azati Prime" we can see ships of this type under water. Either all Xindi ships are submersible, or this is a special capability of Insectoid ships that Degra could take advantage of to inspect the building site of his weapon.
  6. The armament of Degra's shuttle is not consistent. In "The Forgotten" it fires what looks like phase weapons and destroys a Xindi-Reptilian ship, whereas before and after that we can only see it with pulse cannons, which are said to be very weak.

Class specifications

Length: approx. 35m

Ship type 2

General description

This Xindi-Insectoid ship type with its threefold structure is about as large as type 1. Its command functions are highly distributed, there is nothing quite like a bridge. There is a hatchery and a large shuttlebay on at least one particular vessel.

Annotations

  1. The ships of the Xindi-Insectoids appeared in the future of ENT: "Twilight" and later in "Hatchery". Reed said about it: "The hull composition matches the other [Xindi] ships we've seen". Archer added: "It doesn't look like a Reptilian or a Primate design." This is correct, since in the "real" timeline Enterprise had not yet encountered this particular ship type, at least none that we knew of. The ship type was also seen in "Azati Prime", "The Council" and "Countdown". The general impression in the latter episodes is that the Insectoid type 2 is rather shorter than the Reptilian type 1.
  2. Size according to the Official Starships Collection.

Class specifications

Length: 150m

Ship type 3

General description

Nothing is known about this ship except that it serves the Xindi-Insectoids and is capable of underwater operation.

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

The ship initially appeared in the scenario created to deceive Degra in ENT: "Stratagem". Since everything else was realistic, Archer certainly wouldn't come up with a ship type that Degra could easily identify as not being of Xindi origin. The existence of the ship type in the real world was confirmed in "Azati Prime", where it was used as a patrol submarine. The model is a re-use of the Nausicaan vessel with a different (now blue) engine color and perhaps a new (gray) hull color.

Ship type 4

General description

This small Xindi-Insectoid vessel with two large and two smaller wing-like structures is capable of opening a subspace vortex. Its armament is no match to the NX class.
Gallery: Xindi Starships

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

Enterprise was attacked by this ship in ENT: "Hatchery". Reed didn't have much trouble destroying it with torpedoes.

Class specifications

Crew complement: 3

Various small underwater vessels, seen at the Xindi weapon building site in ENT: "Azati Prime"

Only the type 3 (see above) is clearly identifiable here.

Primates

Ship type 5

General description

Almost nothing is known about this mid-sized and moderately armed ship type of the Xindi-Primates.
Gallery: Xindi Starships

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

  1. Enterprise encountered this ship in ENT: "E²" for the first time, and once more in "Countdown". My impression is that the vessel is rather shorter than Enterprise.
  2. Size according to the Official Starships Collection.

Class specifications

Length: 200m

Shuttle type 2

General description

This Xindi shuttle is attached to Degra's ship. It is equipped with a retractable landing gear.

Known shuttles

No name given

Annotations

The shuttle was released from Degra's ship in "The Council". The sketch of this ship by John Eaves indicates, by means of comparison with a humanoid figure, that the shuttle is 27m long. But then it would be impossible to carry this shuttle aboard Degra's vessel, for the latter would have to be 150m long, in clear contradiction to other size evidence from the same episode and to all other size evidence of Degra's ship.

Class specifications

Length: approx. 7m

Arboreals

Ship type 6

General description

This appears to be a design of the Xindi-Arboreals.
Article: Redresses of the Arkonian Warship

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

Enterprise encountered more than one of this ship type in ENT: "The Council". It is obviously the same CGI as the Arkonian warship. It would be far-fetched to conclude that the Xindi have the same ships as a rather backward civilization outside the Expanse, though.

Class specifications

None available

Shuttle type 1

General description

This Xindi shuttle has a tubular shape and is a manned with one pilot only, a Xindi-Arboreal.

Known shuttles

No name given

Annotations

  1. The shuttle could be seen in ENT: "Extinction". It was identified by Archer as definitely being of Xindi origin. Most likely the Loque'eque, who was hunted at the beginning, seeking refuge near the shuttle, was a former Xindi-Arboreal, the pilot of the shuttle.
  2. The shuttle mock-up may be a modification of the 31st century time pod from ENT: "Future Tense".

Class specifications

Length: approx. 5.5m
Crew complement: 1

Aquatics

Ship type 7

General description

The Xindi-Aquatics use this huge ship type, which is heavily armed but its propulsion systems are limited, although it is capable to open a vortex. A large portion of the ship is filled with water to accommodate an Aquatic crew.
Gallery: Xindi Starships

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

  1. Ship type 7 could be seen in ENT: "Countdown" where it gave sheleter to Enterprise NX-01.
  2. Compared to Enterprise and to all the accompanying vessels it should be about 2 kilometers long. According to the Official Starships Collection, it measures "only" 1125m though.

Class specifications

Length: 1125m

Ship type 8

General description

The Xindi-Aquatic fleet includes a larger number of this small ship type.

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

Ship type 8 could be seen alongside the huge type 7 in ENT: "Countdown". I assume that the vessel is operated by the Aquatics, because its lines are similar to type 7.

Class specifications

Escape pod

General description

This type of escape pods is carried aboard Xindi-Aquatic vessels.

Known shuttles

No name given

Annotations

Archer is released from the Aquatic ship in this escape pod in ENT: "Damage".

Class specifications

Length: approx. 5.5m

Weapon Probes

Note The probes are a common effort of all Xindi races.

Large probe

General description

The large Xindi probe is capable of blowing up a whole planet.
Gallery: Xindi Starships

Known probes

No name given

Annotations

The probe is used only in the parallel timeline of ENT: "Twilight", but actually appears in "Azati Prime". There it can be seen being assembled under water. Later on, the probe (presupposing there is only one) must have been transferred to a launch platform underneath the surface of the Council Planet ("The Council"). The battle scenes in this episode and "Countdown" allow a coarse size estimation, according to which the probe should be well over 1 kilometer across.

Class specifications

Diameter: 1500m

Prototype probe

General description

The prototype probe is capable of blowing up a small moon.
Article: Starship Size Issues

Known probes

No name given

Annotations

Except some differences in the lighting the prototype in ENT: "Proving Ground" looked exactly like the above huge final probe. Although it was supposed to blow up a moon, the prototype was still small enough (< 3m diameter) to fit into Enterprise's launch bay. It doesn't make sense to me why the probe that is going to destroy Earth would be 125 million times(!) larger. And yes, I am aware that the prototype was never actually towed aboard, but exactly that was the option before the Andorians beat the Enterprise to it.

Class specifications

None available

Small probe

General description

The Xindi probe is equipped with a powerful beam emitter capable of burning portions of a planet's surface.

Known probes

No name given

Annotations

The small probe emerges from a subspace vortex in ENT: "The Expanse".

Class specifications

Crew complement: 1

Transport frame

General description

This transport for a prototype probe consists of a propulsion unit on a quadratic frame in which the spherical probe is moored.

Known ships

No name given

Annotations

The probe transport appears in ENT: "Proving Ground". It has quite obviously been designed for the particular purpose of transporting a Xindi weapon probe. The design looks like it is very large, with something like an inhabitable command section. But, as mentioned above, the story absolutely necessitates the probe it carries to be smaller than 3 meters in diamater because it has to fit into Enterprise's launch bay. So either the smaller size of the prototype probe was not communicated to the CG artist, or the writer decided to reduce the prototype probe retroactively in size, so drastically that it could simply be transported in a cargo bay and wouldn't have needed the warp sled in the first place.

Class specifications

None available
